During the pandemic, schools were shut down. A friend, exhausted from homeschooling his kids, asked his friends to help teach lessons on something they knew about. “You’re a comedian, why don’t you teach them to write a joke?” I made a powerpoint presentation that went as viral as anything I’ve ever made, and within months, had a book deal with Chronicle Books with my illustrator friend Rinee Shah.
